New Photo Book Captures the Spirit of the Battle of Gettysburg

Germantown, MD (PRWEB) July 9, 2008 -- Today freelance photographer, Ryan Shapiro, announced the book release of Civil War: Battle of Gettysburg, Remembering America's Past through Images.

Over the past several years, Ryan Shapiro has professionally captured action packed images of this annual battle of Gettysburg civil war reenactment organized and hosted annually by the Gettysburg Anniversary Committee.

This year's 145th Battle of Gettysburg Civil Reenactment was significant in that it was the largest reenactment in terms of sheer size and scale compared to the last five anniversaries. This year, The Gettysburg Anniversary Committee had 1,000 feet of historically reproduced five-rail fence, represent the fence on Emmitsburg Road at the time of the battle. Attacking Confederate troops covered the same distance from Emmitsburg Road to the wall that they traveled on July 3, 1863, during Pickett's epic charge.

"For anybody that is a Civil War buff, the strong visual presentation in this book will not disappoint," states Shapiro. Images in the book are from past reenactments as well as some from the 145th recently held in Gettysburg. Shapiro recruited the help of his father and contributing photographer, Sheldon Shapiro, to capture the spirit and action of America's past.

Jim Entwistle, property owner of where civil war troops set-up camp, commented "this was by far the most exciting anniversary and we were happy to be a part of this monumental event."

The 40-page book is being distributed online through book publisher Blurb and is available for purchase by accessing this the URL, http://www.blurb.com/bookstore/detail/288403. The book is available in a "10x8" softcover ($29.95), "10x8" Hardcover ($44.95), and "10x8" ImageWrap ($51.95).
